PRP hair treatment

For PRP a small amount of your blood is centrifuged. The platelet-rich plasma contains growth factors and is placed into the scalp with fine needles – from your own body, with nothing foreign added.

PRP treatment: the prepared plasma is injected into the scalp

How a session works

Blood is drawn from a vein in the arm, much like at your GP. In the centrifuge, red blood cells and plasma separate after about ten minutes. The upper, platelet-rich part is drawn up and injected in small amounts into the affected scalp areas. A session takes around 45 minutes in total.

What PRP is used for

In early hair loss PRP can support the roots and make hair look stronger again. After a hair transplant it is often used to support healing. A noticeable effect usually takes three to four sessions four to six weeks apart, followed by top-ups.

The effect varies between people. Studies show improved density and thickness in many patients, but not in all. We tell you plainly beforehand what is realistic.

Questions about this treatment

Is PRP painful?

You feel the injections briefly. With cooling or local anaesthesia most patients find the session easy to tolerate.

How many sessions do I need?

Usually three to four, four to six weeks apart, then a top-up every six to twelve months.

Can I combine PRP with a hair transplant?

Yes, that is very common. The first session often happens on the day of the procedure or at the next-day check-up.
