FUE is the method that can cover larger bald areas in one session. Follicles are extracted one by one with a hollow needle under a millimetre wide – no incision, no linear scar.
In Follicular Unit Extraction our head surgeon removes follicle groups individually from the safe donor area at the back of the head. This zone is genetically largely resistant to hereditary hair loss – which is why transplanted hair keeps growing in its new place.
Fine channels are then opened in the recipient area, with direction and density planned beforehand. Modern sapphire blades make especially clean, small openings. The grafts are placed into these channels.
When FUE is the better choice
In advanced hair loss, roughly from stage IV to V on the Norwood scale, you often need more than 3,000 grafts. FUE handles that volume reliably in one session. Our head surgeon frequently combines both techniques: FUE for the area, DHI for the hairline.
How many grafts your donor area can give depends on density and hair thickness. We check this beforehand from your photos and on site with a trichoscope – we never plan more than the back of your head can sustain long term.
Your stay
Day 1
Arrival
Airport pick-up and drive to the hotel. In the evening your coordinator calls to go through the next day.
Day 2
Analysis and procedure
First comes a trichoscopy to analyse your hair and scalp, plus a blood test and an ECG. Then your individual hairline is drawn.
This is followed by the extraction and implantation of the hair follicles. The procedure is carried out under sedation (“Sleep Deep”). Afterwards you receive a PRP treatment.
Day 3
Check-up, first hair wash and departure
The head surgeon personally checks your donor and recipient areas and carries out the first hair wash himself. This is also included in the package.
You then have your final consultation and receive all the medication and care products you need, with a detailed explanation of how to use them and of your aftercare.
From the afternoon, after the final check-up, you can travel home.
How the hair grows back
10 daysSmall scabs that come off with daily washing.
30 daysThe transplanted shafts shed; the roots stay.
90 daysNew, initially fine hair starts to grow.
180 daysClearly visible density; the hair gets stronger.
Questions about this treatment
Does FUE leave scars on the back of the head?
It leaves tiny dot-like marks that are practically invisible after healing, even with short hair. There is no linear scar like with the older strip method.
How many grafts do I need?
That depends on the area and the density you want. Temples often need 1,500 to 2,500 grafts; top and crown quickly reach 3,500 and more. After your photo analysis we give you a concrete number.
What is sapphire FUE?
With sapphire FUE the channels are opened with sapphire blades instead of steel. The openings are smaller and smoother, which supports healing.
